When Coach Melvin Jones took over the South Georgia Institute football program in May 2026, he stepped into the position with a clear vision: build a program centered on discipline, accountability, development, hard work, and winning the right way.

In just a few short months, Coach Jones has worked to establish a new culture for SGI Huskies Football, bringing together a dedicated coaching staff and recruiting student-athletes who are ready to work, compete, and represent South Georgia Institute with pride.

For Coach Jones, building a successful football program is about more than what happens on Saturday. It starts with creating the right foundation.

BUILDING THE RIGHT STAFF

One of Coach Jones' priorities has been surrounding the program with coaches who share his commitment to developing student-athletes.

The SGI football staff is being built with individuals who understand that coaching goes beyond teaching schemes, techniques, and fundamentals. The mission is to develop young men academically, athletically, personally, and as leaders.
